hi there, i'm me, and this is my obligatory introductory rmt. anywho, after i've bored myself sick of ou, gotten myself back up to speed with uu/ru/ubers, and played (and am still avidly playing) nu extensively, i've decided to finally get around to lc. and i must say, it's a rather interesting tier, quite the shame nobody plays it :/ anywho, this has technically done fairly well on the smogon ladder, but i find that to be rather deceptive anyway, due to the limited player base. thus, any help wouldn't hurt~

so right off the bat i wanted to use gligar. neat dude, quite versatile, and typing that's just plain excellent, offensively and defensively. the chance that anyone will understand the reference behind him and the title is pretty slim, so i'll just move on.
from this point i decided i needed hazard support, and relatively early in-game at that. really dwebble was a no-brainer there, he's basically the best at what he does (debatably ss too, but not of importance).
so croagunk is just sorta awesome in the current meta, plain and simple. plus, his almost excessive amount of priority moves means that he can clean up late-game pretty easily under the right circumstances (say, sr and a couple layers of spikes...)
well with all this, i still lacked a certain something. stuff like bronzor was still a pretty big issue, and misdreavus us simply a constant threat to most any team. thus, houndour provided a pretty nice "offensive glue" to my team.
so upon a bit of testing, i realized i was kinda gligar weak
and whats the best response to gligar?
bronzor shellder works too, plus he has waaayyyyyy more offensive presence.
so despite the fact that there's only, like, one good spinner in the tier, i still felt as though i needed a spin-blocker, and one that retained enough bulk to switch on problem areas like chinchou. misdreavus, peww
Dwebble (M) @ Oran Berry
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 SDef / 236 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Rock Blast
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
well this dude is basically the deoxy-s of lc. sorta misleading, but by that i mean that he can almost always get sr+a layer of spikes up, making stuff like wearing down defensive pivots and such a fair sight easier than it would be otherwise. plus rock blast is always a neat little option for sub/sash-breaking. not too much to say here really, moving on.
Gligar (M) @ Flight Gem
Trait: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 236 Atk / 236 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Acrobatics
- Substitute
- Roost
so here ya have it, gligar. acrobling gligar is a pretty dangerous is this meta, and pretty enjoyable to exploit. even bronzong doesn't enjoy taking hits from him, and he gets worn down pretty fast w/out any reliable recovery. the number of times i could just nonchalantly set up a sub on a 'gunk or a mienfoo is pretty apalling really, and stone edge really ain't that great, so that's my choice on that.
Croagunk (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 212 HP / 28 Atk / 36 Def / 116 SAtk / 116 SDef
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Dark Pulse
- Vacuum Wave
- Sucker Punch
- Fake Out
I was using this croagunk before it was cool .-. but yeah, as i said before, croagunk is huge. great typing, nice ability, awesome coverage, and a huge pile of priority, he's just pretty chill. dark pulse>payback now that missy is part of the meta again, and burns suck. basically he acts as a defensive pivot for my team, abusing his priority to stack up "residual damage", revenge-killing basically everything at 50% or less, and cleaning late-game. great poke, all i can say.
Houndour (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 196 Atk / 36 SAtk / 36 SDef / 236 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Fire Blast
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Crunch
lo houndour sucks, bulky 'dour is way better. jus' sayin'. anywho, houndour is an awesome "glue" for my team. he handles missy more reliably than anything, he dispatches bronzor, and best of all, he makes me not have to waste my flying gem acrobatics on frail crap like gastly .-. plus he gives me yet another source of priority, which is always appreciated for picking off stuff like abra, who are very much a guessing game (sub, switch, hp fight, ya know).
Shellder (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Skill Link
EVs: 36 HP / 156 Atk / 36 Def / 76 SDef / 196 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Razor Shell
- Ice Shard
my main gligar check, and generally awesome scarfer. yeah, ss is ayte 'n all, but that makes him lose out on a ton of cool stuff (ie. revenging like, every sub user in the meta). and again, more priority is awesome, and guarantees quick attack tailow doesn't do any real damage.
Misdreavus (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 240 SAtk / 240 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Sneak
ghaa, this thing plays nothing like it does in nu ._. but yeah, missy gives me a spinblocker with bulk and offensive presence, which is desperately needed. originally this was filled by acrobling drifloon, which while being an awesome late-game cleaner, couldn't take pumps/tbolts from staryu for it's life. so yerp, not too tough to get the set. shadow ball for stab, hp fight for coverage, WOW for crippling stuff like pawniard/stunky who try to pursuit/sucker pawnch me, shadow sneak for even more priority. cuz ya know, no such thing as too much priority. especially when otherwise the last slot would be sheer filler.
so that's all i got. the team has been fun, but it could always be better. one change i've been playing around with was snover over missy, so i might toss his set in sometime too. 'til then, thanks for reading
