I've used this team for a while, and I think that it is very good. It might have its flaws, but every team has those, in my opinion. This is just a standard Rain team really, but it has worked well for me.
Here is the team:
Politoed (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 240 HP / 252 SAtk / 16 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Focus Blast
- Ice Beam
- Perish Song
Obviously, every Rain team needs Politoed, so Politoed will obviously be here. However, this isn't your standard Politoed. It doesn't have the bulk of some bulky-Toed sets, and it doesn't carry a Choice Item. It is osrt of a blend between those sets, geared toward having good special attack and having some bulk as well. Its moves are fairly straight-forward. Hydro Pump, despite the sub-par accuracy, is a very powerful move in Rain. Focus Blast and Ice Beam are coverage moves, and Perish Song is very helpful in certain situations, such as forcing a certain Pokemon to switch out, or disrupting a Baton Pass chain.
Tornadus (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 8 Atk / 252 SAtk / 248 Spe
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Hurricane
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- U-turn
Tornadus is also included here, as it also works well on Rain Teams. It's Choice Specs boosted Hurricane, combined with its high speed, will make it a pain for any Pokemon to face, and that will dent just about anything, even Pokemon that resist the move. Focus Blast allows Tornadus to hit certain foes hat resist Hurricane; in particular, it does major damage to Tyranitar. Hidden Power Ice can be helpful against the foes that are 4x weak to Ice moves, like Gliscor and Dragonite. Finally, U-turn allows Tornadus to switch out of battle, should the situation not be the best.
Gyarados (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
Gyarados may be a bit of a surprise here, but it works well on this particualar Rain team. Gyarados has decent bulk even without any investment, and its attack power will keep geting higher as it knocks out its opponents. It's scarf may also surprise unsuspecting opponents, since a Choice Scarf is not the most popular item for Gyarados. It has a Jolly nature, which allows it to outspeed some fast threats, like Jolteons and such. The jolly nature doesn't give it the greatest attack power, but the extra speed can help at times. In particualar, Waterfall, boosted by stab and the rain, will do a good amount of damage to many foes. Outrage really rounds off the coverage here, allowing Gyarados to hit the Dragons hard. Outrage also compliments Waterfall well, as the two moves have almost unresisted coverage with each other. Earthquake and Stone Edge round off the coverage, and give Gyarados other attacking options, which can workwell in some situations.
Garchomp (M) @ Yache Berry
Trait: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Aqua Tail
- Swords Dance
I needed a Pokemon that resisted Electric moves, since the above-mentioned three Pokemon all were weak to Electric moves. In came Garchomp, and he has preformed well. Garchomp has a great blend of attack and speed, and has great moves overall. Outrage and Earthquake are the obvious mvoe choices, as they are probably the best stabbed moves that Garchomp has. Aqua Tail is a somewhat-unique option, but since it gets boosted from Rain, it has a great amount of power. It also alows Garchomp to combat certain foes, like Gliscor and Air-Balloon Heatran, that Garchomp would otherwise not do well against. Swords Dance is obviously there to boost Garchomp's attack to high levels, which obviously makes Garchomp very threatening, even after just one boost. The Yache Berry isn't the most common item for Garchomp, but it enables Garchomp to survive some weaker Ice attacks, and to possible fake a Choice Item (if people don'see Life Orb recoil for Garchomp, they could assume that Garchomp has a choiced item).
Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Quick Attack
Well, this is your standard Choice Banded Scizor. Just because it is so well-known doesn't mean that it doesn't work well though. Also, since ths is a Rain team, its lone weakness, Fire, gets reduced in Rain. This means that Scizor can possibly take some weaker Fire attacks, like some foes that may want to use Hidden Power fire on Scizor. Its moves are fairly standard, save for Quick Attack. Quick Attack can work well against foes that resist Bullet Punch, foes like Infernape, Rotom-W, Thundurus, and Volcarona.
Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
Again, this is your standard Ferrothorn. Again, its main weakness, Fire, gets reduced in Rain, making it that much more bulky. Anyway, its moves are fairly straightforward as well. Its purpose is to be a Stealth Rock setter, and to combat the various Water-typed Pokemon that would benefit from Rain.
I think that this team is very good, but if you have comments / suggestions, don't hestitate to tell me what they are.
