One of my NU teams. Empty
PostSubject: One of my NU teams.   One of my NU teams. EmptyThu Nov 22, 2012 10:29 pm

I had sent this to an RMT on Smogon, and then I got banned due to bad relations with a couple of specific mods. So now, I have to post it somewhere else for feedback (http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3475084 is the Smogon link, and no, I am not referring to the mod who locked that thread).

So, this is my new team in NU, built around the GSC Legend in Marowak. Marowak will not be removed - this team is built around the guy. It is one of few pokemon to have access to a personal item (Thick Club), and when given the right support, this guy will bring despair to the opponent. I wish he got Head Smash; he would be the king of NU, along with Ludicolo, Samurott, Charizard, Regirock, and other powerhouses (Serperior is going to leave after his Dream World ability gets released).

One of my NU teams. 377
Regirock @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Drain Punch

I wanted a physically bulky but offensive pokemon that could lay down some Stealth Rocks, so Regirock seemed like a logical choice. Awesome bulk and access to Clear Body makes this guy amazing - I can just imagine how underrated this guy was in ADV, with Sand Stream being introduced that generation. Stealth Rock is move #1 - not changing it anytime soon. Stone Edge and Earthquake - only Torterra resists this. It hits everything in the tier for at least neutral damage, bar Torterra. Drain Punch is an obvious choice so I can nail some recovery. Speed is not particularly important because this guy is supposed to be a physical tank, and he does it well. Look at him, and give him a thumbs up.

One of my NU teams. 105
Marowak @ Thick Club
Trait: Rock Head
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Earthquake / Bonemerang
- Stone Edge
- Double-Edge

The star of the team (why he cannot learn Head Smash, but Scraggy can, I do not know). Swords Dance takes too long to set up, so Substitute was a logical choice. Earthquake, Bonemerang, it is accuracy vs. the ability to break substitutes. I have found myself using Earthquake more often. Stone Edge - well, for some reason, Game Freak gave Head Smash to Scraggy instead of Marowak. Only Torterra resists EdgeQuake. Double-Edge is used to abuse Rock Head, because he does not get Head Smash. I love this guy - his power with that nasty Thick Club forces so many switches. He has power that has been feared since the legendary stall generation of GSC - come at him, bro!

One of my NU teams. 177
Natu @ Eviolite
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Thunder Wave
- Reflect
- Roost
- U-turn

Natu has access to both Magic Bounce and Thunder Wave - a natural fit for supporting Marowak. The little bird can keep those nasty Spikes off the field, and can paralyze foes like Charizard and Garbodor so Marowak can destroy them. Thunder Wave is a must, slowing down opponents so they can be wrecked by the Thick Club. Reflect annoys Pursuit users like Absol and Skuntank, and make the opponent want to scream, "FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUJKFLSSSS". Roost is a great method of recovery - seriously, why not use it? U-turn allows a teammate to come in safely. Natu is pure utility, but it is definitely a better fit than Armaldo or Wartortle due to its movepool. Natu can also frustrate Garbodor and Ammoonguss, as Natu is not OHKOed by Garbodor's Rock Blast. It keeps momentum on my side of the field, and its certainly works great with keeping away dem Spikes.

One of my NU teams. 468
Lickilicky @ Leftovers
Trait: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Protect
- Wish
- Body Slam
- Heal Bell

Cleric, anyone? Lickilicky works great. Using Heal Bell to remove sleep and burns, using Wish to give Marowak some recovery, using Body Slam to paralyze every Ground type bar Golurk, what else could you ask for? He deserves a 9/10 rating in NU, as he is such a capable pokemon. Wish is an amazing move, capable of keeping my team nice and healthy. Protect ensures that Lickilicky can receive the wish himself. Heal Bell - well, burns, poison, and sleep are annoying - this move removes those statuses! The qualities of offense and stall combining together to make a balanced team - how potent when used correctly. Body Slam is Lickilicky's preferred STAB of choice due to the paralysis chance. Cloud Nine is illegal with Wish, so Own Tempo was chosen as the ability. Lickilicky reminds me of Chansey and Blissey - two natural choices on my OU and Uber teams - I love their support.

One of my NU teams. 012ScizorExeggutor
Dead Weight (Exeggutor) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 52 HP / 252 SAtk / 204 Spd
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Sleep Powder

Hmm.... Exeggutor is just not doing his job anymore. I need a new special grass type - one that can handle Samurott, and maybe Gurdurr as well. Choice Specs was meant for offense, and the spread was meant to put Exeggutor in a specific speed tier. Giga Drain and Psychic are STABs, and HP Ice hits opposing Grass types (most notably Shiftry) hard. Sleep Powder is filler, but incapitating an opponent is a good strategy. The problem with Exeggutor? It has been starting to become dead weight. It simply cannot shut down Samurott and Gurdurr, two big threats to my team. I need to replace Exeggutor with another Specially Offensive pokemon, preferably Grass type if I can, that can shut down Samurott and Gurdurr.

One of my NU teams. 544
Simipour @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Gluttony
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Grass Knot
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast

Simipour is frail indeed - but it can take an Aqua Jet after +2 and can hurt Samurott badly with Grass Knot. Also, considering that I do not mind a Choice Scarf user being a little frail, Simipour can do its job okay. I need all of the power I can get, so I look at Hydro Pump, though its accuracy is a letdown at times. I am not hitting as often as I do with Specs Politoed in OU. But Surf is simply way too weak for this set! I need power to revenge kill things! Grass Knot hits Samurott and Alomomola hard, and hits Seismitoad harder. With heavy bulky water-types in the tier, Grass Knot screws them over five times and throws them in the sewer. Ice Beam hits a switch-in like Altaria or Ammoonguss. Focus Blast is a surprise to Regice and Lickilicky - although it cannot OHKO either of them, it certainly throws them off-guard. Simipour can fail me, but it can also be a lifesaver - I just have to put my trust in it.

*Biggest Threats:
**Samurott - Hell no. Exactly why I have Simipour. While Simipour is frail, it is not OHKOed by Aqua Jet after +2, and Simipour can nuke the otter with Grass Knot. Read by comments on Exeggutor please.
**Gurdurr - Shoot. My team is fodder for this guy. Regirock - Drain Punch. Marowak - Ice Punch. Natu - Ice Punch. Lickilicky - Drain Punch Exeggutor - Ice Punch Simipour - Mach Punch. Maybe that replacement for Exeggutor can handle this beast...
**Torterra: Torterra is not as devastating as the other two, but it is still a pain in the neck. My most reliable way of bringing him down is with an Ice Beam from Simipour.

Importable

Nice team, I don't play NU, but I think (maybe?) the solution to your problem is Mothim. I'm not sure if it can take samurott Aqua Jet but it seems like a good choice type wise.

Mothim is too frail to replace Exeggutor. It will easily die to a +2 Aqua Jet.
